Every day’s an Adventure🌿

The team at Evergreen Wood want each and every day to be a fun and rewarding experience for the children in our care. Their time with us should help to foster a lifelong love of learning, and by the end of their pre-school year they should be moving up to P1 filled with confidence to take on any challenge they meet.

We do this through daily adventures into all sorts of fun themes from the passing of the seasons, meeting people who help us, diving deep under the sea, and rocketing out to the final frontier.

If you have any questions about how an early years education could benefit your child please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Where to find us

We’re based in the community run Village Hall in Greyabbey just 10 minutes from Newtownards 🚙. This makes us ideally placed for parents and carers leaving children to playgroup on their way to work or elsewhere during our morning sessions. The hall has lots of space, kitchen facilities for healthy snack time 🍞🥖🍏🍊🍌🥛🧃and also benefits from large green spaces, woodland, and a secure tennis court for outdoor play 🌲🎾😊.

It develops social and emotional skills, helps with language development, physical skills and early maths knowledge. PlaySchool FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Some FAQs that can spring to mind you’ll find here, just click the box for more information. If you’ve any other questions or want to arrange a visit, don’t hesitate to Contact Us.

What time is the Playschool open?

We’re open 9.15am to 12.15pm Monday to Friday. We’re just like big schools running from September through to June with similar holidays at Halloween, Christmas, Easter and Half-terms.

What age does your child have to be?

The Education Authority sets the age range for pre-school children attending in the year before they start Primary 1. Check our enrolment page for details of the latest enrolment period. For ‘pre-pre’ children they can come and join the fun from 2 years 10 months and up.

Is there a uniform?

We do have a uniform, a green sweatshirt and blue polo shirt. It helps everyone feel they belong to part of a team, and gets children used to what school will require when they get there.

Does my child need to be toilet trained?

Ideally they should be on their way but every child learns at a different pace so if we’re helping out with pull-ups for a while that’s fine. Sometimes seeing their friends saying they’re off to the toilet can spur on a bit of determination and independence so just let us know how best to help.

Are all staff qualified and vetted?

All our staff have childcare and education experience and stay up to date with the latest qualifications and training available through our professional development partners to give children the best possible start on their journey into education.

Do you accept children with additional needs?

We do and we have adapted our setting to accommodate children with additional needs and continue to develop it. Our staff team have a wealth of experience of working with a broad range of physical and other needs and we’d be happy to discuss any requirements your child may have, and how best we can help families looking to introduce their children to playschool.

Does my child have to attend every day or can we choose?

The Government gives a free pre-school place for children in their year before starting P1 and they are expected to attend for the full week or at least 3 quarters of the full month. For pre-pre or pre-school paid places you can chose any number for days from one to the full week, whatever suits your family needs.
